Stewy's Math Class
Overview
This year, Stewy's math class has students in Algebra 1, Geometry, & Algebra 2. In order to meet everyone's needs, all students will be working independently and at their own pace. Each day, students will:
- Turn in their homework.
- Log onto Moodle, watch a video lesson, and take notes.
- Get notes checked by Stewy who will then assign homework.
- Finish homework by the next day and check all odd answers.
- Come to class prepared with questions about any problems that could not be answered.
Throughout the year, we will also be working on MathCounts. MathCounts is a national mathematics competitions designed to improve students' mathematical thinking skills. |
Grading
In order to prepare students for the transition to high school, this course will be graded as follows.
- Tests & Quizzes will count for 80% of the final grade.
- Homework will count for 20% of the final grade.
In order to "pass", students will need to earn a score of 65% (D) or higher. More importantly, in order to remain in the honors track, students will need to earn a score of 84% (B) or higher. Since this course will be self-paced, the amount of material that a student gets through will also affect his/her placement. If a student does not complete the assigned curriculum, they cannot advance to an honors course in high school. Students may, however, complete unfinished material over the summer if they choose to do so.
Since course recommendations for high school need to be made in the spring, I will talk with students who are not on track to complete their curriculum in order to guage their committment to finishing the curriculum. Students that don't complete their assigned curriculum may also be in jeopardy of not passing if their final grade multiplied by the percent of content covered does not exceed 65%. Once again, these students will have the opportunity to complete their assigned curriculum over the summer. |
Homework
Homework will be graded as follows:
√+ indicates that the student has shown all work, checked and circled their answers, and the work is neat and legible.
√ indicates that most of the work is shown, answers have been checked and circled, and the work is organized.
√- indicates that either work isn't being shown, answers haven't been checked, or the work isn't organized or legible.
Late indicates that the homework was not done on time.
Incomplete indicates that the homework was never done. |
Participation
Participation will be graded as follows for projects, groupwork, and discussions.
√+ indicates that the student eagerly participated/contributed and turned in high quality work.
√ indicates that the student participated regularly and turned in all work on time.
√- indicates that the student had difficultly participating/contributing, but turned in all work on time.
Late indicates that associated work was not done on time.
Incomplete indicates that associated work was never turned in. |
