The Centre Learning Community Charter School is an independently operated public middle school serving students in grades 5 - 8. CLC provides a small school environment with an emphasis on technology and project-based learning.
CLC offers a small school setting and individual attention that middle school students need. The school has two teachers in each classroom and two full-time support teachers, creating a healthy 1:12 teacher-student ratio. Also, teachers are involved in multi-year relationships with their students. This allows CLC teachers a unique depth of insight into their students and what works for them.
Project-based learning is the core of CLC's curriculum. CLC teachers design "real world" projects that integrate a variety of knowledge and skills. A CLC project could integrate aspects of science, social studies, and math - as well as rely on technology, writing, and problem solving skills. CLC projects are "real world" projects. This means that the projects are not contrived, but simulate real world situations. Students at CLC create museums, educational games, movies, and give presentations to their peers and outside visitors at end-of-project conferences.
Each student at CLC is provided access to a computer at school and at home. This may take the form of two desktops or one laptop. This access to technology allows students to use their knowledge in powerful ways. All students at CLC have websites that showcase the knowledge that they've acquired. In addition to creating web pages, students at CLC also become masters of basic computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, and email), as well as advanced computer applications (slide shows, video editing, and game programming).

Who may apply:
CLC accepts applications for students who will be entering grades 5 and 6 in the State College, Bellefonte or Bald Eagle school districts. We will also consider applications for the 7th and 8th grade when there are openings in those classes.
