CLC Technology Video Tutorials

The best way to learn how to use all of our technology tools and applications is to teach someone else how to use them. So, select one of these technology skills or devices and create a video tutorial that will help someone to use your thingamabob. When we're all done, we'll share our tutorials with the rest of the CLC staff and students. This project will become something that our community will appreciate for many years to come -- well, hmm -- or at least until a new version of the gismo is invented!

Guidelines:

1. Pick a thingamabob. Develop a list of questions that you think someone would need to know the answers to in order to use it. For example:
  • How do I open the application or turn it on?
  • What is it used for?
  • What are the basic steps for using it?
  • What special features does it have? How do they work?
  • How do I turn it off?

2. Meet with your CLC buddy and learn how to use the thingamabob. Keep track of your questions and the answers as you work together.

3. Once you think you know how your thingamabob works, write up a video script that you can use in your instructional video.

4. Read your script to your buddy as he/she simulates following your directions as he/she pretends to be a first time user of your thingamabob. Revise and edit your script as you work through this 'dry run'.

5. Make a video tutorial showing how to use your thingamabob.

6. Edit your video as needed and then post it on your project page.

7. Present a lesson about your thingamabob to the rest of the team. Your lesson should include your video tutorial and a hands on activity that you team members can do to help them to learn how to use your technology tool/application.
